P.U.R.R West Virginia is a no kill, all volunteer, cat only shelter/rescue that is saving lives and making the world a more humane place; one kitty at a time. We pride ourselves on having well adjusted, socialized kitties that are ready for a place in your heart and home.
Our non-profit organization is run entirely by donations.  We are not state or government funded.

P.U.R.R. West Virginia is a grass-roots, non-profit 501(c)3 volunteer organization funded entirely by grants and tax-deductible donations from cat lovers like you. Your donation goes directly to providing on-going care year round for abused and orphaned kitties, to heal their bodies and spirits on their way to a new chance in a furr-ever home. And for those who may not find the perfect family, PURR offers a safe place for the rest of their lives. At any given day, about 260 cats live in open rooms where they can roam and play, where they can socialize with other cats and with our volunteers. Thanks to your generosity, the cats have a quality of life they would otherwise not have.

P.U.R.R. WV will be closed for the remainder of the month of June.  We will not be accepting cats, performing spays, or adopting out during this time.  Thank you for your understanding.  We look forward to seeing you in July!

Abraham Lincoln once said “You can't believe everything you read on the internet.”
Such is the case with the recent publicity surrounding an article claiming to link a common parasite, toxoplasma gondii, to feline feces and schizophrenia.  This is simply untrue.  This parasite is MOST commonly spread in uncooked meat and can infect any warm-blooded creature.  Almost one-third of the world’s population is infected with this parasite, including an estimated 60 million Americans.
For the truth behind toxoplasma gondii, read this article from Washington State University.

Did you know that PURR WV is a sanctuary for cats who are "unadoptable" due to age, illness or disposition?  PURR WV has many amazing cats who reside in the sanctuary and need daily care like medical exams, medicine, food, water, litter, and of course, a comfortable place to live our their years! PURR WV's sanctuary has all sorts of residents: some with terminal cancer, some with chronic skin conditions, some who are just simply considered elderly.  PURR WV is able to provide long-term care for these special animals through support and donations of cat lovers like YOU!  PURR WV thanks you for any donation, no matter how large or small, so that we are able to continue providing loving care for these animals for the rest of their lives.  Donate by clicking here!

P.U.R.R. West Virginia is currently in need of financial donations and volunteers to rescue and improve the lives of cats and kittens statewide.  We are a volunteer organization funded entirely by tax-deductible donations from cat lovers like you.  Please donate today by clicking here.
